July 10, 2010: The Norwottuck Rail Trail (part of the Connecticut River Greenway) was a fun ride because we saw lots of wildlife. We saw cardinals, two bunny rabbits, a crow, a horse, chipmunks and squirrels, and a cat lying in the middle of the road. The trail is a 10-mile ride from Northampton to Belchertown, Massachusetts and we biked a total of 22 miles, including the two miles we biked before we found the trail head.
The next day, on July 11, 2010, we did the Northampton Bike Path, a short 3-mile ride, for a total of 6 miles. There is a house along the trail where the owners provide a bench, water, air for tires, a phone, and a lending library. Some horrible person wrote “I HATE THIS PLACE” on their fence, but the owners changed it to “I SHARE THIS PLACE.” Very clever, huh?
